DipTest: A litmus test for E. coli detection in water
We have developed a new litmus paper test (DipTest) for detecting Escherichia coli (E. coli) in water samples by performing enzymatic reactions directly on the porous paper substrate. The paper strip consists of a long narrow piece of cellulose blotting paper coated with chemoattractant (at bottom edge), wax hydrophobic barrier (at the top edge), and custom formulated chemical reagents (at reac...
متن کاملA Simple Litmus Test for Aldehyde Oxidase Metabolism of Heteroarenes
The bioavailability of aromatic azaheterocyclic drugs can be affected by the activity of aldehyde oxidase (AO). Susceptibility to AO metabolism is difficult to predict computationally and can be complicated in vivo by differences between species. Here we report the use of bis(((difluoromethyl)sulfinyl)oxy)zinc (DFMS) as a source of CF2H radical for a rapid and inexpensive chemical "litmus test"...
متن کاملAssessing Stability of Gold Nanoparticles in Presence of Two Enzymes, RNaseA and RNaseH, Using Colorimetric Detection
Gold nanoparticle-based diagnostic methods have attracted much attention due to their simplicity, high sensitivity and low cost. These methods are mostly used for early and efficient detection of various pathogenic factors and assessment of gene expression and nanoparticles stability. In this study, melon plants were cultured in vivo and then, RNA was extracted from leaf explants. A 40 bp probe...
متن کاملHost-parasite interactions: a litmus test for ocean acidification?
The effects of ocean acidification (OA) on marine species and ecosystems have received significant scientific attention in the past 10 years. However, to date, the effects of OA on host-parasite interactions have been largely ignored. As parasites play a multidimensional role in the regulation of marine population, community, and ecosystem dynamics, this knowledge gap may result in an incomplet...
متن کاملColorimetric detection of thiols using a chromene molecule.
A new thiol-containing colorimetric probe has been developed by using a chromene derivative, 7-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-cyclopenta[b]chromen-1-one (1). The molecule exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity for detecting thiol species as cysteine, homocysteine, and glutathione in aqueous solution through a rapid visual color change from colorless to yellow.
